Instructions
You can open a game by clicking the button „New Game“. The player can select the skill level of the opponent s/he wishes to play. Of course the player may also choose to join a game already opened.
A players own cards are displayed. Clicking on a card places it on the field. If a player takes a trick, the cards are placed face-down next to the cards in use.
The button „Turn“ is always shown to the player whose turn it is. If the player wishes to turn, so that no more cards can be drawn from the deck and the other player has to play and follow suit, s/he has to click this button.
Rules
66 is one of the oldest German card games. A deck of 24 cards (four 9s, 10s, Jacks, Queens, Kings and Aces). At the start of the game each player receives five cards. The rest make up the deck. The lowest card is placed next to the deck and designates Trumps.
The player who deals the cards lets the opponent draw and start. The dealer can match the card played with one of their own. The player who takes the trick takes the cards and then draws the uppermost card in the deck and then waits until the other player draws and plays. A player can either draw or play, until there are no more cards in the deck and s/he must follow suit or trumps.
The object of the game is to get 66 points or take the last trick. The player who does this wins. The tricks are then added up. A player can call combinations of cards, termed Pairs (or Marriage). These consist of a queen and king of the same suit.
The player whose turn it is can also choose the option of „Turn“. The card at the bottom of the deck (which determines trumps and is shown face-up under the pile of cards) is then put on top of the deck. Players may no longer draw and must follow suit or Trumps. The player who decides to turn must now get 66 points in order to win the game. The points the opponent had before the turn are used for this calculation. If the sum is less than 66, the other player wins the game and also the counters of the other player, but at least 2.
In the game, cards with a higher value beat those with a lower one. If the cards have the same value, the card played out first wins, except if the previous card was a trump card. A Trump beats all non-trump cards as well as trump cards with a lower value.
A round ends as soon as a player wins the last trick or reaches 66 points.
For the purposes of better comprehension, some basic game terms are described here:
Following suit: a card which is played has to be matched by a card of the same suit, assuming the player has cards of that suit (ie hearts with hearts, diamonds with diamonds etc. ).
Stealing: A nine can be traded for the Trump card at the bottom of the deck, if it is of the same suit and it is that players turn.
Schneider: If a player has made no counters in a game and the opponent is down to zero, the loser is called Schneider.
Trick: The player with the highest card takes both cards (takes the trick).
Taking tricks: A player must always play a card of the same suit played or play Trumps. This is then the case in 66, when there are no more deck cards to be played.
Deck: the pile of cards from which players draw cards after playing. The player who took the trick draws first.
Trumps (Atout): Beats every suit, but must be determined before the start of the game. Otherwise the normal values are in effect within a suit.
Playing Trumps (Atout): A player who has no cards of the suit played must always play a trump card, but only if there are no more deck cards available.
Points
Point values and counters are used to calculate the score. A counter is the value of one game, which in turn is determined based on the number of points made by the player who lost.
Point values
Ace = 11 points
Tens = 10 points
King = 4 points
Queen = 3 points
Jack = 2 points
Counters
0 points = 3 counters
32 points or less = 2 counters
65 to 33 points = 1 counters
