Sheepshead is a traditional Bayern card game for four players, which is played with 32 or 24 cards. When announcing the game, players can choose between a 'partner' hand and a 'lone' hand.

At the beginning of the game each player receives 8 or 6 cards. A round of bids follows, during which either a 'partner' or 'lone' hand can be announced.
The player with the highest bid is the playmaker. In a partner hand the playmaker names a trump Ace of his/her choice. The playmaker and holder of the named Ace then form a team and play together. Players must follow suit and trump when possible, but may play any card if not.

The aim of the game is to score a total of between 61 and 90 points, either as a team or alone. If the points are level, the team with the playmaker loses.
