Hearts is an American trick card game for 4 players from the 19th century. In the German speaking regions the game is also known as 'Black Cat' and in Great Britain as 'Black Lady Hearts'. It also belongs to the family of Whist games, which is also the source of Bridge. You don't have to follow trump or trick but suit.
The aim of the game is to have as few Hearts cards as possible in your tricks and not to trump the Queen of Spades to avoid getting points and not to exceed the agreed limit of points at the end of the round.
Avoid trumping Hearts cards or the Queen of Spades! If one of your fellow players exceeds the agreed number of points you should have the lowest number of points in your account because then you win!
You can find details on multiplayer versions here: How do multiplayer games work? In the lobby you select under settings the card images and game design you want to play with.
Start of the game
You can start a new game round by clicking on the button „New Game“. You can select who can come to the table and the stakes and amount of points you would like to play for (between 30 and 50 points). You have the choice between the versions „Classic“ and „Special“. Of course you can also join the current round of a fellow player.
At the edge of the table you can view who’s players turn it is. The remaining time for a move, the stakes and your credit will be displayed. You can view the agreed number of points as well as the amount of points that has already been collected by the players in the previous rounds. You can chat with your fellow players via the chat function.
Hearts is a card game for 4 players in wich the players play separately. The game will be played with a 52-card deck with the suits clubs, spade, hearts and diamonds without a joker. There is no trump in the game and the ranking when taking tricks is 2 to ace, whereby 2 is low and ace is high (in ascending order: 2-10, jack, queen, king, ace).
Every player is dealt 13 cards initially. The cards will be displayed fanned out in front of you. Afterwards you select 3 of your cards that you would like to swap by clicking on them. In the first round the player to your left receives the cards, in the second round the player to your right receives the cards and in the 3rd round the player opposite you. No cards will be swapped in the 4th round. This cycle will be repeated until the game is over.
The player, who holds the 2 of clubs starts by playing this card. The other players will add cards clockwise but are not allowed to play the queen of spades in the first round. The players must follow suit. If you don’t hold a card in the suit played you can play a random card. The player who plays the highest ranking card in the suit played takes the trick and plays the next card. You can only play hearts if a hearts card was played in a previous trick. By clicking on a card you move it into the centre of the playing field.
If you get a hearts cards or the queen of spades the negative points you have received in the current trick will be displayed in the centre of the playing field.
Additional rules for „Hearts Special“
Two additional rules apply if the game version „Hearts Special“ has been selected. They will make the game more exciting because they allow for a player to win, who has already collected lots of points. An additional round will be played under the following conditions:
If you have not received any negative points in a round but you are not the best players according to the overall score you have won this round and another round will be played (even if the agreed number of points has already been exceeded).
Equal point score
If one or several players have equal point scores to the player with the lowest number of points the game will be continued until there is a winner.
End of the game
The negative points of every player will be displayed in a separate window after every round. The game is over if one of the players has reached the previously agreed points limit (except in case of a ‚Perfect Round’, equal point scores or with ‚Hearts Special’). The player with the lower number of points wins the game.
You will receive a negative point for every hearts card in your tricks and for the queen of spades you will receive 13 negative points, which will be added to your points from previous rounds. If you manage to take all hearts cards and the queen of spades in a game you will receive 0 points and your opponents will receive 13 negative points each.
