Tarock is a trick-taking card game from the tarock family that is well known in Austria and South Tirol. The name ‘Tarock’ describes the game announcement, in which a king is called and the owner of the called king becomes partners with the caller for the current round. A famous ‘king caller’ for example was Sigmund Freud.
Tarock is played with 54 cards (22 tarock and 32 suit cards). The tarock cards are trump cards that exist in addition to the 4 suits. Along with the suit cards there there is also another card: The knight or Cavallo. There is a distinction in the game between positive and negative games: In the first, you need to make as many points as possible through tricks, in the second you need to win as few tricks a possible or even none at all. You must follow suit and tarock, and in the negative game, even trick.
