Chess is the most popular 2-player board game around. The board comprises 64 squares and there are 16 white and 16 black playing pieces.
Eight pawns form the front facing the opponents and can take pieces diagonally. The two Rooks at either end of the second row can only attack vertically and horizontally. The two Knights can leap 3 squares in the shape of an “L”. The two Bishops can only move diagonally. The Queen is the strongest piece and can attack without restriction in terms of distance vertically, horizontally and diagonally.
Although the King is the most important piece, it is also the weakest. It may only move one square at a time. If you can get the King into checkmate you’ll win the game.
